About this variety
Grow earleaf acacia from Acacia auriculiformis seeds. This warm-climate evergreen develops a spreading crown, curved leaf-like phyllodes, and golden flower spikes. It is often planted as a shade or screening tree and is valued for its ability to establish in sunny sites with freely draining soil. Mature size can be substantial, so outdoor placement should be planned carefully.
Also known as: Earpod wattle, Northern black wattle, Darwin black wattle, Papua wattle, Akashmoni, Australian babool and Auri.
The hard seed coat benefits from pretreatment. Pour hot, not actively boiling, water over the seeds and leave them to soak as the water cools, usually overnight. Sow swollen seeds in a clean, well-draining medium, cover lightly, and keep them warm and evenly moist. Do not leave the pot waterlogged. Give emerging seedlings bright light and gradually acclimate them to direct sun. Protect young plants from cold conditions.
Natural variation is expected, and germination timing and results depend on pretreatment, temperature, moisture, and aftercare.
Acacia auriculiformis is a vigorous tree in suitable tropical and subtropical climates. Before planting outdoors, check local guidance because growth behavior can vary by region.
